Our story

We built KAMPSTA
because the best
nights happen outside

A small team of campers who couldn't find a better way to book. So we built one.

How it started
A terrible booking experience in Dalarna

It was July 2021. Our co-founder Jonas had driven four hours from Stockholm to a lakeside campsite in Dalarna he'd found through a recommendation. No online booking. He called three times — no answer. When he arrived, the site was half empty.

The host — a lovely farmer named Bertil — had been out in the fields all day and had no idea someone was coming. Jonas ended up sleeping in his car in a layby six kilometres down the road.

That night he sent a voice note to his friend and co-founder Erik: "There are 400,000 campsites in Scandinavia and none of them have a proper booking system. Why does this not exist?"

"There are 400,000 campsites in Scandinavia. None of them had a proper booking system. We thought — why does this not exist?"

Our mission
To make the outdoors accessible to everyone — and to make running a campsite genuinely simple for the people who love hosting.
The problem
Two sides of the same broken experience

For guests, finding and booking a campsite in Scandinavia was stuck in 2005. Phone calls, emails, PDF booking forms, payment by bank transfer. Half the sites had no website at all.

For hosts — the farmers, foresters, and outdoor enthusiasts who open their land to campers — the admin burden was crushing. Answering the same questions by phone fifty times a summer. Chasing payments. Managing a paper diary. Missing bookings because they were out working the land.

KAMPSTA solves both sides at once. Guests get a modern, trusted booking experience. Hosts get professional tools that run in the background — so they can focus on what they love about hosting.

What we believe
The principles that guide us
01
Hosts come first
Campsites are usually small, family-run businesses. Every feature we build starts with the question: does this make a host's life easier? We charge 6% — not because we have to, but because hosts deserve to keep what they earn.
02
Honesty over hype
We don't airbrush the outdoors. Campsites are listed accurately. Reviews are genuine — only guests who stayed can leave one. We'd rather have 2,000 honest listings than 10,000 misleading ones.
03
The outdoors is for everyone
Camping shouldn't be gatekept by those who already know the secret spots. KAMPSTA exists to connect people who love the outdoors with the people who maintain it — regardless of experience, background, or budget.
04
Simple is hard work
Every screen in KAMPSTA has been redesigned at least three times. We obsess over removing friction — a booking that takes 90 seconds instead of 4 minutes isn't a small thing. It's the whole point.
05
Leave it better than you found it
We're building a business in nature. That means we take environmental responsibility seriously — carbon-neutral operations since 2023, and a partnership with Rewilding Europe to restore 1 hectare of Scandinavian habitat per 1,000 bookings.
06
Move at the speed of trust
We could grow faster by cutting corners on host vetting or guest verification. We don't. Every host is reviewed. Every guest is verified. Trust is the product — everything else is a feature on top of it.
The journey
From a car park in Dalarna
to Scandinavia's outdoor platform
The beginning
Jonas sleeps in his car
A failed attempt to book a campsite in Dalarna sparks the idea. Jonas and Erik spend the weekend building the first prototype — a simple booking page for Bertil's farm.
